How this ranking works

The baseline is the lowest standard recreational monthly per-foot rate the marina's own source prints: its starting rate or its smallest size band. End, side and inside ties, covered slips, multi-hull, commercial, guest and liveaboard rates are not used as baselines. Larger size bands can cost much more per foot: Balboa Yacht Basin's published bands run from $36.63/ft for 20′ to $74.20/ft for 75′. Ordering by base rate is not a quote for a specific boat; check the full rate as listed and confirm with the marina.

Two rows carry effective dates older than our check dates, and a check date is not an effective date. Redwood City's linked schedule is Tariff No. 7, effective July 1, 2023; Alameda Marina's rates are labeled effective July 1, 2025. Both were still the posted schedules when we checked, so they stay in the ranking with the effective date shown.

Dry boat storage in California

None of the 25 California marinas we track publishes a per-foot dry stack rate. Flat dry-storage prices are listed below on their own; we don't compare them with wet slip figures.

What changes the monthly bill

Each point comes from a marina in the tables above.

  • Billed length: Redwood City, Balboa Yacht Basin and Port Royal bill the vessel or slip length, whichever is greater; Richardson Bay has a 26′ minimum ($403/mo) and Alameda a 24′ minimum ($192).
  • Single vs double finger: Brisbane, Martinez and Oyster Point publish different prices for single- and double-finger slips of the same length.
  • End, side and inside ties: Alameda lists end/side ties at $13–$15/ft; Redwood City end ties at $11.25/ft and side ties at $7.75/ft; Ventura West end ties at $28/ft and inside ties at $14.33/ft; Brisbane inside ties at $7.67/ft without water or electric.
  • Location within the marina: Berkeley's base rate has location surcharges; Santa Cruz prices vary by dock ($14.56–$32.44/ft).
  • Covered slips: Alameda lists covered berths from $10.50/ft.
  • Utilities: Richardson Bay adds metered electric; Benicia bills electric at the PG&E rate; Port Royal includes water with metered electric; Coyote Point includes utilities.
  • Liveaboard: Benicia lists a $345/mo liveaboard fee, Martinez $275/mo and Oyster Point a $473/mo permit; Long Beach notes liveaboard extras.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a boat slip cost in California?

Among the California marinas we track that publish a per-foot monthly wet slip rate, the baseline rates run from $8.00 to $36.63 per foot per month, with a median of $14.35, based on 13 of 25 listed marinas. Larger slips often cost more per foot, and tax, electric and liveaboard fees are usually extra. 6 more marinas publish flat monthly prices by slip size, and 5 don't publish rates, so we mark them call for rates.

Is there a published dry stack rate in California?

Not per foot. None of the California marinas we track publishes a per-foot dry stack rate. A few publish a flat monthly dry-storage price, which we list separately. We don't convert flat prices into per-foot figures, and we don't estimate.

Why do some California marinas charge a flat monthly rate?

Many California harbors, especially municipal and harbor-district marinas, price by slip size: a 30-foot slip has one monthly price and a 40-foot slip another. Others charge per foot, often billing the vessel or slip length, whichever is longer. We keep the two in separate tables so the comparison stays like-for-like.

How many California marinas publish a price?

20 of the 25 California marinas we list publish a sourced price. 13 publish a recreational per-foot monthly wet slip rate, 6 publish flat monthly prices by size, 1 publishes only a transient monthly sublease rate, and 5 say call for rates: Kona Kai Marina, Oceanside Harbor, Anchorage 47 (Marina del Rey), The Marina at Dana Point, Safe Harbor Emeryville.

Where do these prices come from?

Every price comes from the marina's or city's own published rate page, which we link next to it along with the date we checked it. If a marina doesn't publish rates, we mark it 'call for rates'. We never estimate a price.
